Hoya Australis Variegated #4

The Hoya Australis Variegated (outer variegated) is a very hardy and lovable plant. Its thick and dark green leaves with the white edges make this plant stand out.   

The Hoya Australis Variegated likes bright, indirect light. Exposing it to direct light can cause sunburn to the leaves. Too little light can cause the growth to slow down or will cause the new leaves to become smaller (note that every new leaf will start out small and will grow). With a good amount of light the leaves can sunstress, which means the leaves will turn pink/purple. This will not harm the plant and will give a nice pop of colour to this plant.

Hoyas like their top half of soil (50%) to dry out before watering it again. They like their soil to dry out in between waterings. Keeping the soil too moist too long can cause root rot. We prefer to use clear container pots so we can monitor the soil en roots. 

The Hoya Australis will thrive in a roomhumidity around 40%, but will also do well in normal roomhumidity. It like a consistent roomtemperture between 18°C and 27°C.

During the growing season (spring and summer) the plant would appreciate to be fed with a (liquid) fertilizer every 2-4 weeks. During the winter dormancy period the plant does not need to be fertilized (or it should be heavily diluted).

Hoyas are blooming houseplants. During the growing season they can grow lots of wax-like flowers. Each hoya has a different looking flower. When the flowers have finished blooming they will drop the dry blooms. Be carefull with pets and small children as the flowers should not be ingested. Keep the empty stems where the blooms used to be on the plant, so the Hoya will continue to bloom from this area next growing season.
